National Exchanges
The PEN faculty members engage in national scope activities related to projects such as the Inter-institutional Doctoral Program (DINTER), Teaching and Research Network Associations, and representation in Brazilian Entities and Associations.
With broad experience in developing Inter-institutional Programs – namely MINTER (Master’s Program), DINTER (Doctoral Program) and PQI (Institutional Qualification Program), PEN has already granted in these education modes a total of 217 Master’s degrees and 26 doctoral degrees.
In the 1990s, through the Network for the Promotion of Graduate Education of the Southern Region (REPENSUL), PEN/UFSC facilitated the qualification of master’s and doctoral students in five Poles across the country – (i) Universidade Federal do Paraná, (ii) Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, (iii) Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, (iv) Universidade Federal de Pelotas, and (iv) Fundação Universidade do Rio Grande, by means of the expanded Master’s and Doctoral Degree Programs.
Below, we list some actions from the last four-year period (2013-2016):
INTER-INSTITUTIONAL DOCTORAL PROGRAM
DINTER at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN)
The DINTER Project of the UFSC Graduate Program in Nursing carried out at the UFRN Graduate Program in Nursing, has granted, in 2015, 14 new doctoral degrees – all of them to UFRN faculty members.
It is important to emphasize the benefits achieved through this partnership: meeting the goal of granting 14 doctoral degrees in the expected time, thus generating 14 new doctoral dissertations; elaboration of 42 manuscripts derived from the doctoral dissertations for publication; publication of 46 articles written by graduate students together with their supervisors or faculty members of PEN/UFSC between 2013 and 2015; extending the visibility and leadership of UFRN Nursing area in Teaching and Health Institutions, qualifying, above all, the professional training for technical, undergraduate and graduate education in Nursing; stimulation of scientific production and participation in international and national events with paper presentations; increase of the fundraising potential from research and outreach funding bodies.
DINTER at Universidade do Estado do Amazona (UEA)
In 2014, the UFSC/UEA DINTER in Nursing was approved. The program began in 2015, leading to the qualification of 18 faculty members of UEA. Over the course of the year, the mandatory and elective courses were offered according to the Areas of Concentration, totaling 25 credits. The program is currently in progress.
TEACHING NETWORK ASSOCIATIONS:
- Pro-Teaching in Health Project (Projeto Pró-Ensino na Saúde)
The Pro-Teaching in Health Project – CAPES, coordinated by Dr. Marta Lenise do Prado, involves the participation of 10 permanent faculty members of PEN and the participation of faculty members from the Graduate Programs in Dentistry – UFSC, Nursing – UFPA, Dentistry – UFPA, and Social Policies and Regional Dynamics – UNOCHAPECO.
It articulates five research groups from PEN (EDEN, PRAXIS, GECHES, GEPADES and GIATE), one research group from the UFSC Graduate Program in Dentistry (GIS), one research group from UNOCHAPECO (Research Group on Public Policies and Social Participation) and four research groups from UFPA (Development of Materials and Techniques in Dental Clinic, GEPHE, INCLUDERE and SBCA). Professors and students of nursing, dentistry, pharmacy, physiotherapy, biology and physical education make up the group. The project has quotas for master’s, doctoral and visiting professor scholarships, which are distributed among the three Higher Education Institutions.
- Partnership with the Ministry of Health – SGTES and the Ribeirão Preto School of Nursing, of the Universidade de São Paulo
In 2011, PEN/UFSC accepted the commitment to coordinate the Project for Qualification of Nursing Professionals and Community Health Workers for the Unified Health System’s Integrated Care Network, together with the Ministry of Health – SGTES. The project comprised a distance learning Specialization Course in Lines of Care in Nursing, in the areas of Psychosocial Care, Noncommunicable Chronic Diseases, Emergency and Urgent Care, and Maternal, Newborn and Child Health. The course was designed to qualify 1200 health service nurses.
Made up of four stages, it involved the collaboration of the Ribeirão Preto School of Nursing, of the Universidade de São Paulo (USP), through a specific agreement. The general coordination of the Project was the responsibility of Prof. Dr. Vania Marli Schubert Backes. For the project development, several seminars, workshops and videoconferences were undertaken so as to structure the project collectively and elaborate the 10 Course Modules, together with the 42 tutors involved (stages 1 and 2).
The Course (stage 3) began in November 2012 with the first on-site meeting held on 24 November in the 27 Brazilian state capitals. In 2013, the Specialization Course advanced in the development of the 9 learning modules and a further two meetings were held on 23 March 2013 and 21 September 2013, in the 27 Brazilian state capitals.
In 2014, the Course was concluded with the elaboration and development of the final project followed by its on-site presentation to examining committees in the 27 Brazilian state capitals. The project granted 966 specialization certificates in Lines of Care in Nursing throughout the Brazilian territory in the four thematic areas.
In 2015, the fourth stage was carried out, consisting in the elaboration of Directives and Guidelines for the training of Community Health Workers in Lines of Care and the elaboration of Directives for Technical Specialization Courses at the Secondary Level in Lines of Care in Nursing (Chronic Illnesses; Psychosocial Care; Maternal, Newborn and Child Health; and Urgent and Emergency Care). This action involved meetings between directors of the SGTES Technical Actions and the creation of Working Groups for the Training of Community Health Workers and for the Specialization Course at the Secondary Level in Nursing, made up of faculty members from PEN/UFSC, EERP/USP and representatives of the ETSUS and DEGES/SGTES/MS.
- Partnership with the Ministry of Health – UNASUS for the Training Course in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, within the scope of the Psychosocial Care Network.
Coordinated by Dr. Maria Itayra Padilha, the Training Course in Child and Adolescent Mental Health within the scope of the Psychosocial Care Network was carried out from November 2012 until July 2016. It has trained four groups and granted 1,800 certificates to health professionals from across Brazil.
The National Plan for Continuing Training and Education aims to qualify health service professionals, considering the current demands of the Brazilian health networks. In this context, a partnership was established between UFSC, the General Coordination for Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs, of the Ministry of Health, and the Unified Health System’s Universidade Aberta [Open University] (UnA-SUS), with the aim of putting into effect, through a collaborative process, the Updating Course in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, in the distance learning format. This Course, therefore, arose as a way of providing tools for professionals working in the Psychosocial Care Network, having understood that this is a current demand for qualification of the Psychosocial Care Network (RAPS).
The course involved updating in the field of child and adolescent mental health, considering the most prevalent disorders and main approaches, as well as the challenges for the Health Care Network services under the regulation of the Statute of the Child and Adolescent, with priority topics such as: construction of rights for children and adolescents; diagnosis and care of children and adolescents with mental disorders, including autism; medicalization of children, adolescents and young adults; use of drugs in childhood and adolescence; institutionalization of children and adolescents with demands related to drug use; care of adolescents and the fulfillment of socio-educational measures; and interfaces between health and education, among others.
RESEARCH NETWORK ASSOCIATIONS
- PRONEX-FAPESC – Health care of the physically disabled in Santa Catarina: reality and challenges
Financed by FAPESC/CAPES, the project entitled “Health care of the physically disabled in Santa Catarina: reality and challenges” began in April 2012, with expected end date in July 2017. Five research groups linked to PEN/UFSC form part of the project: GEHCES (Maria Itayra Padilha), GEPADES (Alacoque Lorenzini Erdmann, Selma Andrade), PRAXIS (Flávia Regina Souza Ramos), NUCRON (Soraia Dornelles and Denise Guerreiro) and GESPI (Silvia Azevedo dos Santos, Angela Alvarez, Karina Hammersmith), as well as one Group linked to UNIVALI, the ARES (Maria Teresa Leopardi).
This integrated Project has a quanti-qualitative nature, involving physically disabled individuals, their families, their carers and health workers. It comprises various techniques of data collection and analysis with a predominance of qualitative studies. The macro project articulates the following objectives: to identify the epidemiological profile of the physically disabled from two Regional Health Units (Greater Florianópolis and Itajaí); to analyze the support network for the disabled, and the public care received; to investigate the accessibility of primary care health services; to map the existing public services offered to people with physical disabilities – infrastructure, coverage and personnel; to develop and evaluate a SISreab information system to support health professionals, for storage of data and information which allow the control, management and monitoring of people with physical disabilities in two Regional Health Units of Santa Catarina; and to analyze the history of national, state and municipal interventions and policies relating to the physically disabled based on two Regional Health Units in Santa Catarina. The study is being undertaken in the following scenarios: (i) place where the physically disabled person lives, (ii) Primary Care Center, (iii) State Public Health Services geared towards urgent and emergency care, and (iv) Intensive Care Units and rehabilitation units – where the mechanisms by which the physically disabled enter the system, and the articulations with other health services, will be investigated.
As part of this Project, in September 2015, the 1st International Seminar of Current Issues in Rehabilitation Nursing (SIAER) was held. It involved the presence of international speakers from the University of Porto (Maria Manuela Martins and Barbara Gomez) and Brazilians speakers from UNIRIO, USP/RP, the Luci Montoro Network, the Santa Catarina Rehabiliation Center, the Sarah Kubitschek Network and UFSC.
- PPSUS – Research Projects on the Unified Health Service – FAPESC Call N. 03/2012-2016.
Management in Network: maternal and neonatal mortality prevention: Coordinated by Dr. Maria de Lourdes de Souza, the “Management in Network: prevention of maternal and neonatal mortality” project was developed in partnership with the State Department of Health (SES), UNIVALI, UNOESC, Municipal Secretariats and others, between 2013 and 2016. Among its activities, we place emphasis on: training for Epidemiological Investigation, identification of institutional strategies for maternal mortality reduction; implantation of the CEPOMIF State Committee within SES/SC and of the Regional Committees within SES/SC and the Regional Health Units; promotion of workshops, seminars, participation in congresses, and scientific text production with the participation of SES/SC technicians.
Electronic Records in Health and Telemonitoring for the field of Urgent and Emergency Care in the State of Santa Catarina – eRUE: Dr. Grace Dal Sasso coordinated the project entitled “Electronic records in Health and Telemonitoring for the area of Urgent and Emergency Care in the State of Santa Catarina – eRUE”, in partnership with the Santa Catarina State Health Department and the Ministry of Health, between 2012 and 2016.
Organization of emergency care units in the State of Santa Catarina: letting the managers, health professionals and service users speak: Coordinated by Dr. Eliane Regina Pereira do Nascimento, between 2014 and 2017, this project aims to assess the organization of the Emergency Care Units of the State of Santa Catarina, in the perspectives of managers, health professionals and service users, based on the National Policy on Emergency Care and on health assessment.
- PROCAD – Academic Cooperation Program – Active Aging: health promotion and prevention of functional and cognitive incapacities
This is a multicenter study, undertaken in different contexts, carried out in partnership with the Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso and the Universidade Federal do Pará, coordinated by Dr. Silvia Maria Azevedo dos Santos, from October 2014 to October 2019. Its main objective is to investigate the impact of falls on the active aging of older adults who live in the cities of Florianópolis, Cuiabá and Belém.
